Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth will inspect the security of the U.S.-Mexico border as part of his first working trip. He announced this on February 3 in the social network X (former Twitter).

"Departing Andrews Base on my first trip as Pentagon chief. Heading to the southern border to meet with our military and review the progress of border security operations," he wrote.

Earlier, on January 30, the Pentagon chief called the scandal-plagued Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba "an ideal place" for detaining migrants. He also promised to "humanely evict" criminal migrants from the country and cooperate with other agencies to secure the southern border.

On Jan. 20, immediately after his inauguration, Trump signed more than 200 new executive orders. Among them, the introduction of a state of emergency on the border with Mexico. In addition, the American president repeatedly stated that he was going to cancel the granting of American citizenship by birthright.

US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on February 1 to impose trade tariffs of 25% on goods from Canada, China and Mexico. Then he also promised to impose duties on goods from the EU. With this decision, Trump seeks to reduce the flow of the opioid fentanyl across the border, as well as the flow of migrants.
