Australia says USAID in the U.S. is being used for coups d'état in other countries

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) has been used by democrats to overthrow the governments of other countries. Australian political scientist Mark Lowe told Izvestia on February 3.
"USAID has always conducted undercover operations to sow dissent and discourse in the country. It has been used for no other purpose than to topple governments. It has always been so," he said.
Lowe emphasized that it would be good if U.S. President Donald Trump restructured USAID so that the agency provides real assistance to other nations rather than being a tool for coups.
"What that change will be and what it will look like is another question. And how long will these changes last? Remember that the American political cycle lasts four years. So if the Democrats come back to power in four years, USAID will be busy organizing coups again," the Australian political scientist noted.
Earlier in the day, American entrepreneur and head of the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Ilon Musk announced the launch of the process of liquidation of USAID.
On January 20, the White House website published Trump's executive order to suspend Washington's development aid to other countries for 90 days. After, on January 25, Reuters reported that USAID froze programs to support foreign countries, including Ukraine.
On February 2, The Hill newspaper wrote that Trump called USAID managers "radical lunatics. " He specified that the administration was getting rid of the agency. Musk called the agency a criminal organization that should cease to exist. He added that it is a "snake's nest of radical left-wing Marxists who hate America."
On the same day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova suggested replacing the name of USAID with "Self-Help Agency" if it resumes its activities, ironically calling it an agency for interfering in the internal affairs of sovereign states.
Malek Dudakov, an American political scientist, also told Izvestiya on January 29 that the US decision "hit" Ukraine and Taiwan. In addition, he expressed the opinion that Trump would not step up assistance to Ukraine in the future.
