Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev has called American billionaire Ilon Musk's intention to close the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) a smart move. The politician wrote about it in the social network X (former Twitter) on February 3.

"Smart move on the part of Ilon Musk trying to shut USAID's mouth. Let's hope the notorious 'deep state' doesn't swallow him whole," Medvedev wrote.

Musk on February 2 called USAID a criminal organization and said it should cease to exist. Later, in a separate X publication, he added that the agency is "a snake's nest of radical left-wing Marxists who hate America."

Later, on February 3, Musk announced that he had started the process to dismantle USAID.

On that day, Senator Konstantin Kosachev called the American billionaire's statement that USAID had allocated money to create biological weapons, including a coronavirus, a secret Polishinel, Gazeta.ru wrote.

As The Hill newspaper wrote on February 2, US President Donald Trump said that USAID is run by "radical lunatics." He specified that the administration is getting rid of the agency.

On the same day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova suggested replacing the name of USAID with "Self-Help Agency" if it resumes its activities, ironically calling it an agency for interfering in the internal affairs of sovereign states.
