The State Duma told about the laws coming into force in February

The law on the regime of expulsion of illegal migrants from Russia will come into force on Wednesday, February 5. This was announced by Chairman of the State Duma (GD) Vyacheslav Volodin on February 1.

"The law providing for a regime of expulsion of illegal migrants will come into effect. <...> This measure is aimed at improving security," he wrote in his Telegram channel.

Another change in the state's migration policy is related to the introduction of administrative responsibility for violating the rules of entering or leaving the country, which will start working on the same day.

In addition, Volodin shared that from February 1, the indexation of social payments and insurance pensions comes into effect, which is brought to 9.5%. The amount of maternity capital will also be indexed by the same figure. The maximum payment will now amount to Br912 thousand.

Also from February 5, the law providing mentoring for children in difficult life situations, the law on the development of creative industries, as well as on the conversion of confiscated property into the ownership of the subjects of the Russian Federation will begin to work.

Earlier, on January 5, it became known that officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation will be able to independently decide on the administrative expulsion from the country of foreign citizens and stateless people for a number of offenses. Previously, this decision could be taken by judges and border guards.

Before that, on December 30, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree, according to which migrants illegally staying in Russia will have to leave the country or settle their legal status by April 30, 2025.
