Google Maps will rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America in the US

Google has confirmed that it will rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America on its Google Maps platform in the United States following an executive order from U .S. President Donald Trump, The Guardian reported on January 28.
"We have a long-standing practice of applying name changes after they have been updated by the official government," Google said in a social media post.
The Gulf will remain the Gulf of Mexico for Mexico, while users outside the USA and Mexico will see both names on the Google Maps platform.
Earlier, on January 24, Donald Trump issued an executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the American Gulf, and also expressed his willingness to take the Panama Canal and Greenland under the control of the United States.
The Mexican authorities instantly reacted to this decision. As the country's President Claudia Sheinbaum stated, the Gulf will be called the American Gulf only on the continental shelf of the United States, for the rest of the world it will still be the Gulf of Mexico.
