Ex-mayor of Rome Gianni Alemanno was sentenced to a year and 10 months in prison for violating the rules of alternative sentencing. This was reported on January 28 by the publication L'Unione Sarda.
"The Court of Appeal of Rome sentenced the former mayor of Rome Gianni Alemanno to one year and 10 months in prison on charges of illegal influence and illegal financing in one of the directions of the Mondo di Mezzo investigation," - stated in the material.
As specified by the Italian edition Agi, the former minister and mayor of Rome was arrested on the night of December 31 for violating the terms of the sentence handed down against him. He used it to carry out political activities, which was prohibited.
Gianni Alemanno served as mayor of Rome from 2008 to 2013.
A corruption case was brought against him in 2014. Alemanno's trial was part of the larger Mondo di Mezzo (Middle World) trial. In 2019, the former mayor was sentenced to six years in prison on corruption charges, but was acquitted last June. The former mayor is banned from holding public office for life. It was found that the total amount of bribes he received from mobsters equaled €223k.
In July 2024, he was acquitted of corruption charges.
