Naryshkin proposed RIO to discuss historical belonging of Ukraine's lands

The topic of the historical belonging of the lands that are now part of Ukraine can be discussed with historians from other countries. This was stated by the director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) and the head of the Russian Historical Society (RHS), Sergey Naryshkin, on January 28.
"I just with my fellow historians in the Russian Historical Society proposed to discuss this topic, but from a historical point of view. And we will definitely do it. And we will try to invite historians from other countries, from Poland, from Hungary, from Slovakia," Naryshkin told TASS in response to a question whether the division of Ukraine's territory by different states is theoretically possible in the future.
He emphasized that the issue of historical rights to the lands that are now Ukrainian is very serious and has a deep backstory.
Earlier, on January 14, the Russian presidential aide and chairman of the Russian Maritime Board, Nikolay Patrushev, suggested the possibility that Ukraine might cease to exist this year, but its people remain bound to Russia by centuries-old ties. The head of the collegium drew attention to the fact that Russia should negotiate on the settlement of the conflict only with the USA and not with representatives of Europe. Patrushchev added that statements by United States President Donald Trump allow Russia to look positively at the prospects for further developments in the Ukrainian conflict.
Later, on January 28, the Independent newspaper reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whose powers expired on May 20, 2024, believes that under Trump it will be possible to reach a ceasefire agreement, but Kiev should be included in the negotiation process.
Prior to that, on January 20, Trump was inaugurated, after which he said he planned to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin as soon as possible to discuss the conflict in Ukraine. In turn, the new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis a priority for Trump. According to him, "part of the preparatory work" has begun.
The last round of talks between Russia and Ukraine took place on March 29, 2022 in Istanbul. They lasted about three hours. Later, Kiev officially refused contacts with Moscow. On October 4, 2022, the Ukrainian president put into effect the decision of the country's National Security and Defense Council on the impossibility of holding talks with Putin.
