Germany's participation in the European Union's (EU) anti-Russian sanctions is a shot in the foot for Germany. This was stated by Bundestag deputy from the party "Union of Sarah Wagenknecht - for reason and justice" Sevim Dagdelen.

"Economic war is just a shot in the foot while one in five nuclear power plants in the United States continues to run on uranium from Russia," she wrote on social network X (former Twitter) on January 27.

According to her, the EU sanctions against Russia are particularly devastating for Germany. She predicted a recession for the German economy this year due to the EU's decision to extend sanctions.

Earlier, on January 28, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that there are no innovations in the EU's extension of anti-Russian sanctions for six months. He also called the sanctions against Russia illegal.

On January 27, the head of EU diplomacy Kaja Kallas officially confirmed the extension of anti-Russian sanctions for six months. In turn, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary Peter Szijjarto said that Budapest had received from the European Commission the required guarantees of energy security, without which it refused to extend sanctions against Russia.

Prior to that, on January 21, Dagdelen called for the reopening of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and the import of Russian oil. According to her, Germany will suffer an economic downturn as "self-destructive sanctions" against Russia are tightened.
