Climatologist links abnormally warm January to the undermining of Nord Streams

Gas leaks resulting from the explosion of the Nord Stream-1 and Nord Stream-2 gas pipelines may be one of the reasons for the abnormal heat in January this year. This was reported on January 28 by climatologist Nikolai Tereshonok of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Central Administration for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring".
"This year everything went unpredictable. No one could predict such abnormal warmth in January - and that it would be the hottest this year. I argue that, in addition to El Niño, the Nord Streams situation played a significant role," he told the Moscow news agency.
According to the expert, gas emissions provided dozens or even hundreds more greenhouse effect than carbon dioxide. The climatologist noted that although some scientists write that this is not enough, he disagrees.
"I'm trying to convey that it's enough, so we need to look for the culprits," Tereshkov concluded.
The leaks on the gas pipelines were discovered in September 2022. Two powerful underwater explosions were registered in the area of the pipeline leaks at the time of the emergency. Russia is seeking an international investigation into the terrorist attacks. In February 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with U.S. journalist Tucker Carlson that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was responsible for the explosions.
Earlier in the day, meteorologists said that winter weather will return to the capital region in early February. Thus, the temperature may become negative already in the first days of February.
