The U.S. Immigration Service made about 1,200 arrests in one day, almost half of the detainees have no criminal record. This was reported by NBC News on January 28 with reference to a senior official of the presidential administration.

This is about the data for Monday, January 27.

"Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested a total of 1,179 people on Sunday, up from the 956 arrests the agency reported Sunday night. But only 613 of those arrests - nearly 52 percent - were deemed "criminal arrests," the report said.

As for the remaining detainees, they had committed no criminal offenses other than illegal border crossing.

It is noted that administration officials and US President Donald Trump have repeatedly said that they will prioritize the detention and deportation of illegal immigrants who have committed serious crimes, but the latest figures may cast doubt on such promises.

The day before, January 27, it was reported that Customs and Border Protection (ICE) in the United States has been instructed by the presidential administration to multiply the number of people apprehended for immigration violations to at least 1,200 to 1,500 people per day. It was noted that Trump "so far disappointed with the results of his mass deportation campaign."

Prior to this, January 25, it was reported that in the U.S. state of Mississippi proposed a "Certified Bounty Hunters Program", according to which the detectives will be officially registered and receive $1 thousand for each successful deportation of an illegal alien. On the same day, it was reported that the number of southern border crossings by illegal migrants in the U.S. dropped sharply in the first days of President Trump's administration.

Before that, on January 24, the media learned about US plans to send thousands of military personnel to protect the border with Mexico. As of today, about 2.2 thousand military personnel are already on the border as part of Task Force North in El Paso, Texas.
