At the border between the United States and Mexico there was a shootout between a member of a drug cartel and the United States Border Guard. This was reported by The New York Post (NYP) on January 28.

It is noted that an alleged member of a drug cartel opened fire at the border patrol, while illegal migrants were trying to cross the river to swim to the U.S. territory.

According to the newspaper, the patrol service stopped the attempt to penetrate the border. It is also indicated that no one was injured as a result of the shooting.

Earlier, January 27, Customs and Border Protection in the United States was instructed by the administration of President Donald Trump to multiply the number of people detained for violation of immigration laws from several hundred per day to at least 1200-1500 people per day.

Before that, on January 24, the media learned about US plans to send thousands of military personnel to protect the border with Mexico. As of today, about 2.2 thousand military personnel are already on the border as part of Task Force North in El Paso, Texas.
