Vilfand predicted historical temperature figures for January in Moscow


January in the capital will be the hottest in the history of weather observations, and the average temperature background in Moscow will become positive for the first time. This was reported by the scientific head of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand on January 28.
"Due to the fact that the current five-day period will be record warm, it will also affect the average monthly temperature - this January will be the warmest for the entire period of observations," the forecaster told RIA Novosti.
Vilfand recalled that the previous record value belonged to January 2020, but then the average monthly temperature was 0 degrees, while it is currently forecast to be positive. He emphasized, this is a "completely unusual" fact.
Earlier, on January 27, leading specialist of the information agency "Meteonovosti" Tatiana Pozdnyakova in a conversation with "Izvestia" noted that during this week in Moscow and the Moscow region is predicted record warm weather. It is expected that the warmest will be January 30. She noted that earlier on this day was overlapped the previous maximum temperature: the temperature reached +4.4, and the record value - exactly +3 degrees - was in 1914. There has not been such a warm end of January for more than a hundred years, the forecaster added.
