Italian soccer champion Nainggolan suspected of drug smuggling


Former footballer of the Belgian national team, Italian champion with Inter, 36-year-old Raju Nainggolan was arrested on suspicion of drug smuggling. This was reported by Gazet van Antwerpen on January 27.
"The investigation concerns the alleged importation of cocaine from South America to Europe through the port of Antwerp and its redistribution in Belgium. We can confirm that soccer player Radja Nainggolan was arrested as part of this case," - stated in the material.
According to the publication, Nainggolan was detained by local authorities on the territory of Belgium. The footballer is suspected of selling cocaine from South America through the port of Antwerp.
It is noted that hearings on the case continue. An investigation into the incident is also underway.
The athlete in January this year signed a contract with the club "Lokeren-Temze". Also the footballer played for the clubs "Roma" and "Cagliari".
Before that, in December 2024, a Russian citizen was detained at Bandaranaike International Airport in Sri Lanka while trying to smuggle cannabis. It was noted that the man was engaged in the cultivation, processing and distribution of the drug in different countries. A total of 1 kg and 50 g of cannabis was found in the man's luggage.
