British Defense Minister John Healey has asked British King Charles III for approval to rename the submarine HMS Agincourt, named after the historic victory over French troops in 1415, so as not to offend the French. This was reported on January 27 by the British edition of The Sun.

It is noted that an attempt to change the name has already been made, but was rejected by former British defense minister Grant Shapps and called him "nonsense".

"Renaming Agincourt is nothing short of sacrilege. This submarine bears a name that pays homage to a defining moment in British history," the former defense minister told The Sun, commenting on Healey's initiative."

Earlier, on January 7, it was reported that two members of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's party mistakenly passed off the Russian Project 636 Varshavyanka submarine as a German-made submarine from Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems.

On December 28, 2024, the Daily Mail newspaper reported that hazing, rape and the use of illegal substances are rampant on board the UK Royal Navy's submarine fleet. According to the publication, on one of the submarine vessels, personnel keep a list with crew members who would be raped first in the event of an unforeseen disaster at sea.
