Hungarian Foreign and Foreign Economic Relations Minister Péter Szijjártó has received assurances from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a telephone conversation with him that United States President Donald Trump is determined to achieve an end to the conflict in Ukraine. On January 26, Sijjarto said on the social network Facebook (owned by the recognized extremist company Meta, its activities are banned in Russia).

"We reaffirmed our mutual commitment to peace. My colleague assured me that President Donald Trump has a very important goal - to end the three-year war in our region. I assured Secretary of State Marco Rubio that Hungary will continue to strongly support any initiatives that bring us closer to the end of war and the advent of peace," Szijjártó said in a video message.

In addition, he noted that one of the most significant consequences of the conversation was the reaffirmation of mutual commitment to restoring political relations between the U.S. and Hungary. Szijjártó emphasized that they were in decline under the Joe Biden administration, but Marco Rubio made it clear that he and Trump are interested in restoring Hungarian-American relations.

Szijjártó said Hungary has faced very serious security threats over the past three years.

"We have suffered very serious economic damage. Living next to war is bad, dangerous and harmful. Therefore, it is certainly in Hungary's interest for Donald Trump to succeed and put an end to it," the Hungarian foreign minister said.

Szijjártó said that in the coming years there will be "a new golden age in Hungarian-American political relations." The politician also noted that they expressed their desire with Rubio to hold the first working meeting as soon as possible.

Earlier, on January 22, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said that Donald Trump's first decrees as U.S. president indicate the coming of an era of common sense in the world. Szijjártó said Hungary has had to fight many times in recent years to keep itself out of conflict, keep migrants out and "not fall into gender madness."

On Jan. 20, Trump took the oath of office, becoming the 47th president of the United States. At the inauguration ceremony, he announced the beginning of "America's Golden Age" and that the country's official policy is now to recognize only two genders - male and female. Since taking office, he has signed more than 200 executive orders, one of which suspended Washington's overseas aid.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said Budapest expects peace, calm and economic recovery from Trump's presidency. He said Washington may now change course toward conservative values.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on January 22 also expressed the opinion that with Trump's arrival in the White House, all the values previously promoted by the United States "flew into the basket" and turned into "anti-values".
