- Three Russian Armed Forces scouts held their position near Malaya Loknya despite an AFU ambush
Three scouts managed to hold their position near Malaya Loknya in Kursk Region despite an ambush by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). The commander of the reconnaissance platoon of the Buran unit of the volunteer corps with the call sign Miron told Izvestia on January 26.
According to him, the task was set: to conduct reconnaissance of the AFU stronghold. Three fighters of the Buran squad and seven other men from a related unit went on the mission.
However, the Russian soldiers were ambushed, as there were actually much more Ukrainian fighters there, as it turned out later - 22 people. Accordingly, the Russian Armed Forces (AFU) fighters had to make an emergency retreat to stay alive, with the AFU hitting them with machine guns, hand grenade launchers, and kamikaze drones.
"A few wounded people went out on their own and a few heavy ones stayed behind, we gave them first aid and entrenched ourselves to cover them. An evacuation team came up quickly," Miron shared with Izvestia correspondent Alexandru Fedorchaku.
However, in the process of fighting, the commander himself was also wounded. The man managed to get out. The remaining attackers held their position and waited for reinforcements.
As a result, the Russian military managed to enter the positions abandoned by the AFU fighters. Some of them were killed during the gun battle, several were taken prisoner, Miron said.
Earlier, on January 22, Russian artillerymen told Izvestia that the work against the AFU in the Kursk border area continues. The commander of an artillery division with the call sign "Vampire" noted that there are situations when the order to work on a target has not yet been given, and the artillerymen are already ready.
The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6, 2024. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
