Musk has proposed renaming the English Channel to the George Washington Channel

American entrepreneur and billionaire Ilon Musk proposed to name the English Channel in honor of the first U.S. President George Washington. He shared his initiative on his page in the social network X (former Twitter).

The strait runs between France and the UK. Musk accompanied his message with a proposal for a new name with a geographical map on which he signed the Channel as George Washington Channel.

Earlier, on January 24, US President Donald Trump issued an executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the American Gulf of Mexico, and also expressed his willingness to bring the Panama Canal and Greenland under the control of the United States.

The Mexican authorities instantly reacted to this decision. As the country's President Claudia Sheinbaum stated, the Gulf will be called the American Gulf only on the continental shelf of the United States, for the rest of the world it will still be the Gulf of Mexico.
