"Izvestia" showed the situation on the border of Mexico and the United States
"Izvestia" on Friday, January 24, publishes footage of the situation at the US-Mexico border from the side of the checkpoint in San Isidro.
According to eyewitness Elena, there are no troops on the border, and the inspection is going on as before.
"The car crossing is the same: cars go one by one, the officer stands. He asks for documents selectively, not everyone. Again, we pass the face control," the woman said.
She added that, despite the fact that the car crossing is freer, the presence of a car does not guarantee approval to enter the U.S. and obtain political asylum.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that the number of southern border crossings by undocumented migrants in the United States has fallen sharply in the first days of President Donald Trump's administration. It was specified that the reduction amounted to 35%.
On the eve of the TV channel Fox News said that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement police for the first days of Donald Trump's presidency detained more than 460 illegal migrants, including those who had convictions for sexual and domestic violence, as well as for drug and weapons offenses.
On the same day, Trump restricted the eligibility of undocumented migrants who entered the U.S. through the southern border. The US President authorized and instructed the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice and the State Department to take all necessary measures to immediately repel the invasion, repatriation and removal of illegal immigrants through the southern border of the country.
That's when the media learned of U.S. plans to send thousands of military personnel to protect the border with Mexico. As of today, about 2.2 thousand military personnel are already on the border as part of Task Force North in El Paso, Texas.
