Mosquito fleet would have significant advantages over large ships like the Soviet battle railroad missile systems (BZHRK) "nuclear trains". This was stated on January 23 by the president of the National Research Center (NRC) "Kurchatov Institute" Mikhail Kovalchuk during a meeting on the participation of the country's higher educational institutions in ensuring technological sovereignty in shipbuilding.

"Today, with hypersonic, with new missiles, with a new type of weaponry, any large ships are just a target. And imagine if we go from that to a mosquito fleet? That's what the Americans were afraid of before? They were afraid of our trains," Kovalchuk said.

According to him, the U.S. side did not know which Russian trains with missiles were moving on the railroad, as well as where "the missile flew out on the vast territory of the country."

"Nuclear trains" are combat railroad missile systems equipped with intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Earlier, on January 20, military expert Alexei Leonkov, in a conversation with Izvestia, called NATO countries' attempts to block the Russian Navy in the Baltic Sea a pretext for war, for which the North Atlantic Alliance, unlike Russia, is not ready. According to Leonkov, the acquisition of weapons, sending ships to the Baltic Sea for patrolling in a different environment could sound like a regular use of the NATO bloc's fleet. However, now, he noted, the situation in this water area is different.

Prior to that, the media reported that NATO warships have started patrolling the Baltic Sea as part of the Baltic Sentry operation. According to journalists, the patrolling of the water area involves a sonar vessel, which is capable of studying the structure of the bottom.
