Poles accused Biden of treating Poland as a second-class country
Current US President Joe Biden treats Poland as a second-class country because he has not included it in the list of countries to which artificial intelligence (AI) technologies can be exported unrestrictedly. This was stated by the Polish publication Next on January 20.
It recalled that on January 13, the Biden administration published the "Rules for the Dissemination of Artificial Intelligence" - a document that regulates the export of U.S. technologies in this area, such as chips. According to these rules, 18 countries, such as France, Germany, Italy, Great Britain and Canada, are named as "key allies and partners" to whom these technologies can be sold.
Poland is included in the "yellow list" of partners, along with Hungary, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia and Switzerland, with a restriction on imports of a maximum of 50,000 chips per year with the possibility of increasing this number to 100,000. Next notes that the decision of the Biden administration was criticized by the European Union (EU) and the scientific community. The publication quotes Polish professor Piotr Sankowski, who believes that the ability to export chips without restrictions would be in line with both the interests and security of the United States. In addition, Poland, according to the scientist, is an economic opportunity, not a threat to the US.
Moreover, Nvidia, which is the largest manufacturer of artificial intelligence systems, said the decision by Biden and his team jeopardizes global progress and threatens to undermine innovation.
Earlier, on January 15, Poland's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digitalization Krzysztof Gawkowski called the restriction of US exports of microprocessors to Poland an unjustified measure that violates the principle of equal treatment of EU countries. The Polish government intends to fight the situation and report it to the European Commission (EC).
