Machine color: AI market in Russia will grow multiple times in 2025
Experts have predicted a multiple growth of the AI market in 2025 - according to various estimates, it may reach up to 800 billion rubles. In 2024, this figure ranged from 130 to 305 billion rubles, depending on counting schemes and metrics. The key reasons for the jump are neural network technologies that will penetrate the lives of ordinary people, as well as the strengthening of the connection between AI and the consumer market: simplification of work with recommendation systems, new functions of AI assistants and multi-agent platforms, assistance in shopping and even medicine.
Revenue of the Russian AI market
In 2025, the revenue of the Russian market of AI projects may grow to 800 billion, said Igor Bederov, an expert of the NTI market "Seifnet". According to Alexander Rodin, a leading expert of the Center of Competences of NTI "Artificial Intelligence" on the basis of MIPT, the real figure will be lower - 600 billion.
- Estimates of different expert groups differ. The RF Ministry gives one figure, private companies give another. This is due to the methods of market research and calculation of the value of its volume: different formulas give different results. From inside the market, we see that the demand for neural networks is really actively growing and the market shows double-digit percentages of growth annually, which indicates interest in the field," said Anton Averyanov, General Director of ST IT group of companies, expert of the TechNet NTI market.
The contribution of the sphere of artificial intelligence to Russia's GDP in 2025 may be up to 2%. The allocation of 5% of the state budget for science to finance research in the field of neural networks and another 15% for other areas with the application of AI shows the importance of this area for the state, said Igor Bederov.
What is more important is not the market volume itself, but its percentage change from year to year, said Sergei Trostiansky, Deputy Director of the NTI Competence Center for Big Data Storage and Analysis Technologies. According to his estimates, the Russian AI market in 2024 amounted to about 130-160 billion rubles. Compared to 2021, this figure has almost doubled.
According to the Smart Ranking agency, the revenue of the Russian market of AI projects at the end of 2024 reached 305 billion rubles, which is 36% more than a year earlier. The top three largest market players are VK, Yandex and Gazpromneft Digital Solutions.
Experts expect the dynamics to continue.
Key trends in 2025
In 2025, generative AI will become a common tool for ordinary people, Alexander Kraynov, director of artificial intelligence technology development at Yandex, told Izvestia. According to him, the architecture of neural networks will evolve and changes will begin in the sphere of reusability of knowledge accumulated within large generative models. Multimodality (interaction between visual, audio, written and so on content) will be realized , and AI assistants like "Alice" or "Marusi" will turn into full-fledged multi-agent systems that will expand their functional toolkit for users.
- People will more often turn to AI not only as a source of information, but also as a way to solve a variety of tasks. Users are beginning to develop an understanding of the boundaries and capabilities of AI, their own ideas for its use are emerging, and the demand for AI application is growing," said the specialist.
Another trend will be the application of generative artificial intelligence in areas previously dominated by other AI methods, for example, in recommendation systems.
- One of the key trends in the development of neural networks in the coming years will be the development of multimodality and pre-training of opencore models for implementation in business processes in various industries. In fact, this will significantly strengthen the expertise of the Russian IT market and increase the speed of development and launch of new solutions to improve domestic neural networks, as well as allow more companies in the country to integrate neural networks into their business processes," the AI alliance said.
Also in the next year, AI will be most actively deployed in agriculture and healthcare. First, agriculture is one of the most important sectors of the global economy, the introduction of digitalization and automation in which, will increase crop yields and reduce the risk of crop and livestock deaths. Secondly, the number of technology companies in the field of pharmacology, using AI to create new drugs, continues to increase, said Timofei Voronin, Deputy Director for Technology Transfer at the NTI Competence Center for Big Data Storage and Analysis Technologies.
- Neural networks significantly accelerate the process of creating new formulas and compositions, which reduces the time from the beginning of work on creating a new drug to its release on the markets. The introduction of AI in the field of medicine will help level out the consequences of the shortage of doctors and mid-level staff that many countries are currently facing," the expert added.
Alexander Strelnikov, an AI expert at Axenix, identified four reasons for growth: personalized recommendations, point optimization of routine tasks, simplified access to data, and active replacement of standard search mechanisms with GPT solutions.
A key driver will be new open virtual environment technology that will accelerate AI contextual learning. As its developer Alexei Parfun, vice president of AKAR and co-chair of the AI Committee, notes, it brings back the concept of meta-universes, which was in vogue some time ago. According to him, in gamemade and metaviews, advanced simulations create virtual worlds with realistic character behavior, turning games into miniature models of life. In cybersecurity, AI is used to simulate and model attacks to find vulnerabilities, the expert concluded.
