Only 8% of Germans believe that incumbent German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will be able to be re-elected for a second term after early elections on February 23, 2025, according to a survey by the INSA public opinion institute for Bild.

According to the newspaper, this means that only nine out of ten Germans believe that the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) will win the election, of which Scholz is the candidate.

57% of respondents believe that the conservative Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) bloc will win the election. 17% rely on the party "Alternative for Germany" (AdG), 3% think that the winner will be the Green Party.

At the same time, earlier the media wrote that the support rating of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) fell to 29%, while the level of support for the Alternative for Germany (AdG) rose to 21%

Scholz on January 11 officially approved the candidate for Chancellor of Germany from the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in early parliamentary elections. On November 25, 2024, the SPD leadership unanimously nominated the incumbent Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany as a candidate for the election.

Before that, on December 28, 2024, Bild noted that Scholz is less likely to become the head of the country's government again. According to media reports, 14-16% of voters are ready to vote for Scholz, while, for example, for the leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Friedrich Merz - 31-33%.

On December 16, the Bundestag revoked confidence in Scholz's government. German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier then endorsed February 23, 2025 as a possible date for early parliamentary elections.
