Croatian election commission approves Milanovic's victory in head of state election


The incumbent president of Croatia, Zoran Milanovic, has won the election of the head of state, according to data from all polling stations. The corresponding document was published on January 13 on the website of the state election commission of the country.
It is specified that Milanovic gained 1,122,859 votes, while his closest rival Dragan Primorac from the ruling party "Croatian Democratic Commonwealth" (HDZ) - 380,752 votes.
The voter turnout amounted to 44.18%.
"The State Election Commission of the Republic of Croatia, based on the results of all polling stations, has approved and publishes that Zoran Milanovic has been elected president of the Republic of Croatia," the text of the document said.
In the first round of elections held on December 29, 2024, Milanovic received 49.09% of the votes, while Primorac received 19.35%. The voter turnout amounted to 46.03%. Milanović actually leads the largest opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Croatia, although he officially left its ranks in 2020 after assuming the presidency, according to the country's constitution.
Thesecond round of voting took place on January 12 from 07:00 (09:00 Moscow time) to 19:00 (21:00 Moscow time). To organize the elections, 6.7 thousand polling stations were opened on the territory of Croatia and 105 polling stations in 38 foreign countries.
