AdG congress delegates refuse to condemn Russia for special operations in Ukraine

Delegates to the congress of the Alternative for Germany (AdG) party have refused to adopt a resolution condemning Russia for its involvement in the conflict in Ukraine. The N-tv TV channel reported on 11 January that the majority of those gathered did not support the introduction of an amendment to the AdG's election program criticizing Russia's actions.
According to media reports, 69% of about 600 delegates were against submitting the relevant amendments for consideration. The party congress was held in the city of Riesa (federal state of Saxony).
Earlier in the day it was reported that the candidate for Chancellor of Germany from AdG Alice Weidel, speaking at the party congress, said that in case of her election as head of the government intends to restore the work of the gas pipelines "Nord Stream" and "Nord Stream - 2". She added that the AdG party intends to reject the European Union's (EU) climate policy.
On the same day, the AdG party officially endorsed Weidel as a candidate for Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany in the upcoming Bundestag elections. As noted by German portal Web.de, it is the first time in its 45-year history that the AdG has nominated its own candidate for the post.
In November 2024, Der Spiegel magazine noted that the party "Alternative for Germany" added to the final draft of the election program a call for the resumption of trade with Russia and Russian gas supplies to Germany. It was specified that the draft devotes several pages to security policy and lists Russia as a supplier of cheap gas with which cooperation should be resumed.
