OpenAI and Meta executives plan to attend Trump's inauguration

Leaders of technology companies such as OpenAI, Meta (recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) and Uber are planning to attend the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump, which is scheduled for January 20. This is stated by Bloomberg agency on January 10 with reference to representatives of the organizations.
It is reported that such intentions are the latest sign of the industry's attempts to strengthen relations with the president-elect before his return to the White House.
The agency says Uber plans to host an inaugural party in Washington, D.C., in conjunction with the management of billionaire Ilon Musk-owned social network X (formerly Twitter) and media company The Free Press.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman donated $1 million to Trump's inauguration fund, though he previously funded President Joe Biden 's 2024 campaign, Bloomberg notes.
"I think AGI (Artificial General Intelligence, general artificial intelligence. - Ed.) will probably be developed during this president's term, and doing it right seems really important," Altman told Bloomberg Businessweek, referring to a hypothetical, advanced form of artificial intelligence (AI).
The agency noted that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is revamping his social media apps to make them more Trump-friendly. For example, he has abolished strict factchecking and softened the moderation of Meta-owned platforms.
A day earlier, Reuters, citing a spokesman for the aircraft manufacturer, reported that Boeing would donate $1 million to the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. The aircraft maker has donated $1 million to the last three presidential inaugurations, including Donald Trump's in 2017.
Earlier on December 23, 2024, representatives from automakers Ford Motor and General Motors (GM) each donated $1 million and provided vehicles for the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump.
Before that, on December 11, The Wall Street Journal wrote that the American corporation Meta donated $1 million to Trump's inaugural fund in order to establish relations with the future leader of the country. In the past, the company did not contribute to Trump's foundation in the 2017 election and sponsored the foundation of incumbent US leader Joe Biden in 2021.
The election for the 47th president of the United States took place on November 5. In the national vote, Trump received 51% of the vote, while the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris received 47.4%.
