Zelensky says security guarantees are needed to achieve peace

Ukraine needs security guarantees until peace with Russia is achieved. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose term of office expires in May 2024, said this in an interview for RAI News 24 on January 10. The broadcast was published on the YouTube channel of the president's office.
"The European Union (EU) today can take serious steps on all frozen assets of the Russian Federation. This is an important step. It will help not only Ukraine," he said.
Zelensky suggested that the money from Russia's frozen assets should be used to develop European businesses to help the country recover from the consequences of the armed conflict. He called this solution a mutually beneficial approach.
"We really want this (resolution of the conflict - Ed). But before we agree on something, it is very important that these are serious security guarantees. So that these would be security guarantees for Ukraine and for the whole of Europe," he commented.
The president also said that this year he hopes to receive such guarantees and to end the armed conflict.
Earlier, on January 4, The Washingron Post reported that Ukrainian army fighters have become increasingly supportive of negotiations and ceasefires.
Trump's team said last December 13 that it was discussing with the current White House administration and Ukrainian officials to end the Ukrainian conflict. At the same time, Trump's special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, admitted the end of this crisis in the coming months.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly emphasized that the Russian side has never refused to negotiate on Ukraine, but not on the basis of "ephemeral demands" but on the basis of the parameters agreed upon in Istanbul.
The last round of negotiations took place in Istanbul on March 29, 2022. They lasted about three hours. Later, Kiev officially refused contacts with Moscow.
