Shor announced the start of gas compensation payments in Moldova

The opposition bloc "Victory" has started paying compensation for gas in some Moldovan districts. This was announced by the chairman of the Moldovan opposition bloc Ilan Shor on January 10.
"I promised to pay monthly compensation for gas in 1 thousand lei (5.4 thousand rubles. - Ed.). And from today, pensioners and other vulnerable categories of population in Gagauzia, Orhei, Taraclia started to receive it," the politician was quoted in the bloc's Telegram channel.
He noted that "Victory" strives to make Moldovan citizens feel protected, not "waiting with fear for the onset of each winter."
Shor criticized President Maia Sandu and the country's ruling party government, calling them responsible for the energy crisis.
Earlier, on December 31, 2024, energy expert Sergei Ungureanu told Izvestia that Moldova has a difficult situation in the energy sector, and buying electricity from Europe would hit the country's economy. He noted that Moldova has not agreed to continue gas transit through Ukraine, which means that Transnistria will not receive gas and will not be able to produce enough cheap electricity.
On January 1, 2025, Gazprom stopped supplying fuel to Europe through the Ukrainian gas transportation system. The state corporation noted that this happened due to Ukraine's refusal to extend the agreement.
Back in August 2024, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (his term of office expired in May 2024) said that Kiev would not extend the gas transit agreement with Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin pointed out that Moscow was not giving up gas supplies through Ukrainian territory.
