Congresswoman Green will file a bill to rename the Gulf of Mexico
U.S. Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Green said that she would file a bill to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. She announced this on social network X (formerly Twitter) on January 8.
"I have instructed my team to prepare a bill. The legislative council and I have already prepared the text of the bill and are ready to file it Thursday morning (Jan. 9 )first thing in the morning," Green wrote.
If both houses of the U.S. Congress support the bill, federal agency heads would be required to update the Bay's name on all maps within 180 days.
Earlier, on January 7, US President-elect Donald Trump said he intends to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America in the near future. He added that his plans include imposing "very significant" duties on imports of goods from Canada and Mexico.
