Blocking gas supplies to Transnistria is harassment and neo-Nazism. This statement was made on January 8 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

The diplomat called the root of the problem "neo-Nazi attitudes" that were launched into the modern world by ultra-liberals.

"This is what happens with the entire neo-Nazi toolkit, when on the basis of nationality, on the basis of socio-cultural, on the basis of compact residence of people who are united by one culture, religion, community, they start treating, bullying, survival," she emphasized on the air of Sputnik radio.

Zakharova noted that here we are talking about total permissiveness and application of "the whole range" of what should have been forgotten.

Last November, Moldovan Energy Minister Victor Parlicov said that Transnistria could face energy difficulties from January 1 if Russia's Gazprom stops supplying gas. He noted that the country needs help from foreign partners. Later, an economic state of emergency was declared in Transnistria due to the difficult situation in the energy sector.

On January 1, 2025, Gazprom stopped supplying fuel to Europe through the Ukrainian gas transport system. The state corporation said that this happened due to Ukraine's refusal to prolong the agreements. After that, on January 3, the president of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic (TMR), Vadym Krasnoselsky, said that 1.5 thousand multi-storey and 72 thousand private houses in Transnistria were left without heat and gas.

Back in August 2024, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (his term of office expired in May 2024) said that Kiev would not extend the gas transit agreement with Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin pointed out that Moscow was not giving up gas supplies through Ukrainian territory.
