US President-elect Donald Trump intends to rename the Gulf of Mexico into the Gulf of America in the near future. He made such a statement on January 7.

"We are going to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America," he said at a press conference at his residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida.

The U.S. leader-elect added that his plans include imposing "very significant" duties on imports of goods from Canada and Mexico. He accused the states of not sufficiently controlling the situation with the flow of migrants and the supply of drugs to the territory of the United States.

In addition, Trump also refused to promise not to use force to control Greenland and the Panama Canal, which he wants to annex to the United States.

The day before, Trump again proposed that Canada become the 51st American state amid the resignation of the state's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. According to him, if Canada and the United States were to unite, there would be no duties and taxes would be much lower.

Commercializing the statement, Canadian Ontario Premier Doug Ford proposed to acquire Alaska and also annex Minnesota and Minneapolis. Ford added that under his watch, Canada's annexation to the United States would not happen.
