The anchor of the Eagle S tanker, which was detained in Finland on suspicion of damaging a cable in the Baltic Sea, was found at the bottom of the Gulf of Finland. This was reported by broadcaster Yle on January 7, citing sources.

The Finnish Central Criminal Police suspects that the ship's anchor may have cut the EstLink 2 electric cable between Finland and Estonia.

It is specified that the anchor was raised by the multi-purpose Swedish ship HMS Belos. At the moment the object is in the possession of the Finnish authorities.

According to Yle, the investigation of the cable breakage case will be launched on Tuesday, January 7.

Theemergency disconnection of the EstLink DCcable between Estonia and Finland occurred on December 25, 2024. The next day it was reported that the Finnish border guard and police stopped the oil-laden Cook Islands-flagged tanker Eagle S, which is believed to be involved in the cable breakage at the bottom of the Baltic Sea.

On December 29, it became known that the Finnish police found a trace of an anchor on the bottom of the Gulf of Finland after the EstLink 2 electric cable was damaged. With the help of underwater work it was found that the length of the trace is several dozen kilometers.

On December 31, seven crew members of the tanker Eagle S received a ban on leaving the country. It was noted that the ban on the departure of the suspects is a precautionary measure against disruption of the investigation. On January 2, it became known that the eighth crew member of the vessel was banned from leaving Finland.
