The German government rules out the possibility of Chancellor Olaf Scholz's visit to Moscow before the early elections in Germany, scheduled for February 23. This was announced by German government spokesman Steffen Hebeestreit at a briefing on December 6.

He added that a member of the German parliament from the opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Roderich Kiesewetter has already twice tried to spread inaccurate rumors about Scholz's visit to Moscow, RIA Novosti reports his words.

Earlier, on January 5, Kiesewetter said that Russian President Vladimir Putin may meet with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz before the early elections to the Bundestag scheduled for February 23. Kiesewetter specified that a meeting with the Russian leader could also be held by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. According to him, his visit is scheduled for March.

On the same day, Scholz denied rumors about his possible meeting with Putin in Moscow. Also, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said there were no plans for the Russian president to meet with Chancellor Scholz and Trump.

On December 27, 2024, the FRG chancellor said he wanted to talk to Putin again. According to the chancellor, he has already spoken to Trump twice and they agreed to closely coordinate positions on the topic of the Ukrainian conflict.
