Ukraine is ready to settle the conflict, but on condition that NATO provides guarantees on the territories controlled by Kiev. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whose powers expired on May 20, 2024, said on January 5.

"NATO can act on the part controlled by Ukraine <...> if we are talking about a ceasefire, we must understand exactly that there are security guarantees for the territories we control," he said in an interview with US journalist Lex Friedman, which was published on YouTube.

The Ukrainian president added that if any agreements on the conflict are concluded, Ukraine will need additional security guarantees.

Also in the interview, the Ukrainian president said that Kiev was ready to hold talks with the USA and European countries on the settlement of the conflict at the end of January. At the same time, Zelenskyy could not give an answer to the question whether it was possible to sign peace agreements without the condition of Ukraine's membership in NATO.

Earlier in the day, former Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said that Zelenskyy's office was doing everything to prevent the peace talks from taking place. Azarov also noted that no country in Europe has such financial support as Ukraine.

Trump's team said on December 13 last year that it was discussing with the current White House administration and Ukrainian officials to end the Ukrainian conflict. At the same time, Trump's special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg admitted the end of this crisis in the coming months.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly emphasized that the Russian side has never refused to negotiate on Ukraine, but not on the basis of "ephemeral demands" but on the basis of the parameters agreed upon in Istanbul.

The last round of negotiations took place in Istanbul on March 29, 2022. They lasted about three hours. Later, Kiev officially refused contacts with Moscow.
