The state of emergency has been declared due to the impending snowstorm in Washington. This was announced by the mayor of the city Muriel Bowser on January 5.

"A snow emergency has been officially declared in Washington," she wrote on her X page (former Twitter).

The mayor urged residents to remove cars from emergency routes and stay home. Bowser also added that all schools in the city will be closed on Jan. 6.

"Our priority is the safety of all residents," she emphasized.

Earlier in the day, CNN reported on the predicted powerful storm in the central and eastern part of the United States. It was noted that it could become a threat to about 62 million Americans. Air masses will bring snow, ice, frost and winds up to 18 m / s in at least 12 American states. Thunderstorms and rain may occur in warmer regions.
