The Bundestag allowed Putin and Scholz to meet before the end of February

Russian President Vladimir Putin may meet with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz before the early elections to the Bundestag scheduled for February 23. Roderich Kiesewetter, a member of the German parliament from the opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU), said on January 4.
"There are more and more signs that Chancellor Scholz will travel to Moscow and/or meet with Putin before February 23," he wrote on his page on the social network X (former Twitter).
Kiesewetter specified that a meeting with the Russian leader could also be held by US President-elect Donald Trump. According to him, his visit is scheduled for March. The deputy did not indicate the source of this information.
Earlier, on December 27, 2024, Scholz stated his desire to talk with Putin again. According to the chancellor, he has already spoken twice with US President-elect Donald Trump and they agreed to closely coordinate positions on the topic of the Ukrainian conflict.
On December 20, 2024, Scholz told a press conference that he intended to continue talking to Putin. He made similar remarks on December 12. Der Spiegel magazine also wrote that Scholz might soon visit Moscow on a "peace mission," but the German government ruled out such a possibility.
In mid-November last year, Putin and Scholz had their first telephone conversation in two years, which was initiated by the German side. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the fact of the dialog positive. The talks were mainly devoted to Ukraine.
