Infectious disease specialist names symptoms of dominant flu variant


Vladimir Chulanov, chief freelance specialist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation on infectious diseases, spoke on January 3 about the symptoms of the influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 virus dominating in Russia in the current epidemic season.
"The symptoms of influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 are similar to those caused by other strains (cough, sore throat, weakness, chills, fever). "Just like other influenza viruses, A(H1N1)pdm09 is capable of causing a severe course and complications," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
Chulanov added that in severe cases and complications can be high fever, shortness of breath, chest pain, lividity of the lips, dizziness, impurity of blood in sputum and vomiting. According to him, at risk are the elderly, children under the age of two, pregnant women, and people with chronic diseases.
The specialist advised to be vaccinated, as vaccination is the most effective measure to prevent the disease.
Earlier, on January 1, Rospotrebnadzor reported an increase in the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections across the country. It is noted that in the structure of pathogens increases the share of influenza viruses, the dominant of which is the virus A(H1N1)pdm09. According to the body, the flu virus can cause severe complications within 24 hours, the most common of which is pneumonia. Rospotrebnadzor recommended regular hand washing with soap and treating gadgets with antiseptics.
