Seven seafarers from the Eagle S tanker banned from leaving Finland

Seven crew members of the tanker Eagle S, which was detained by the Finnish border guard and police on suspicion of damaging an electric cable between Estonia and Finland, have been banned from leaving the country. The Finnish police press service said on December 31.
"As part of the investigative measures, seven crew members in the position of suspects have received a travel ban," the press service said.
Also, Elina Katayamäki, chief inspector of the National Bureau of Investigation, said the travel ban on the suspects was a precautionary measure against disrupting the investigation. She added that the number of defendants in the case is not final and could increase.
Theemergency outage of the EstLink DCcable between Estonia and Finland occurred on December 25. On December 26, it was reported that Finnish border guards and police stopped the Cook Islands-flagged oil-laden tanker Eagle S, which is believed to be involved in the cable breakage at the bottom of the Baltic Sea.
Later, on December 27, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that the North Atlantic Alliance would increase its military presence in the Baltic Sea due to the disruption of submarine cables.
On December 29, it became known that the Finnish police found a trace of an anchor on the bottom of the Gulf of Finland after the damage to the EstLink 2 electric cable. With the help of underwater work it was found that the length of the trace is several dozen kilometers. The location of the anchor has not yet been found.
