Kazakhstan court recovered KZT8.9 million (about $17 thousand, or more than Br1.7 million) from a resident of Astana, who, as a citizen of Russia and Kazakhstan, had been receiving pensions in both countries for 10 years. This was reported in the city prosecutor's office on December 31.
"A resident of the city, having dual citizenship of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation, for 10 years simultaneously on the territory of the two states received pension payments. <...> The court from the recipient of pension payments recovered illegally received pension payments in the amount of 8.9 million tenge", - stated on the website of the department.
It is specified that according to the agreement of 1992 on guarantees of rights of citizens of the states - participants of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) at resettlement of the pensioner payment at the former place of residence is stopped, if the pension of the same type is provided by the legislation at the new place of residence.
It follows that pension payments can not be assigned simultaneously in two CIS states, explained in the prosecutor's office.
In addition, Kazakhstani laws prohibit citizens from having a second citizenship.
On the eve of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Russia reported that from January 1, 2025 will be suspended the issuance of individual identification number (IIN) to foreign citizens through the country's foreign offices. The measures are associated with the expiration of the relevant pilot project.
