Theoretically, people know which useful habits are necessary in everyday life, but implementing new habits into their regular daily routine is a separate story. Maria Kiseleva, director of the Institute of Psychological and Social Work at Sechenov University, spoke to Izvestia on December 31 about ways to not only try to follow useful habits, but also to implement them in your life.

She emphasized that first of all, motivation is necessary for success. It is important to understand why an action is done, but it is important that the end result is aimed at the person himself, for his benefit. When we strive for a goal for the sake of someone, even the closest and most beloved, unfortunately, motivation does not always work, Kiseleva said.

It is also important to see the delayed result. This will especially help in moments of weakness, when there is a momentary desire to do something wrong. Then you can conditionally include this image of a beautiful future, to which we aspire, to get rid of doubts.

In addition, to implement useful habits on a permanent basis, it is best to have a team. It can be friends, relatives or even other people who share your interests and will want to be together with you. They will be able to support you if something suddenly stops working out the way you would like it to. So, if you are on a diet, continued the psychologist, it is desirable to have a like-minded person, because otherwise it will be very difficult to eat salad leaves when everyone around you is eating fried food and fast food. It is possible that you may even have to change and social circle, if you want to get rid of some bad habits.

"Another important skill is to disconnect. When we start doubting, wondering if we should postpone everything to tomorrow, and running through the pros and cons in our heads, we need to firmly say "stop" and just start doing, at least in small steps. To make it easier, you can think of a "start button". It can be an action, like, for example, the same call to a friend, and an object, a talisman, which you can take in your hands to get additional motivation," - said Kiseleva.

It is also important to realize that a person is not a robot. When we go to our goal, it is normal if something did not work out and there was a setback, but this is not a reason to stop. So you can just take some time off, remember your motivation and image of a beautiful future, and after that keep going in the same direction.

"You can not change this pole and too abruptly - if you decide that now you always choose an active position, your psyche and body will become too scared to change anything at all, and new habits will not enter your life," the doctor warned.

Earlier, on December 19, doctor-endocrinologist INVITRO "North-West" Natalia Pavlovich told "Izvestia" about the formation of proper eating habits. She noted that proper nutrition is the basis for maintaining health and energy, and our gastronomic preferences affect metabolism, sleep quality and stress level. According to her, if it is necessary to change one's lifestyle, in most cases it is worth starting with changes in nutrition, as habits in this regard directly affect metabolism, and consequently, the physical and psychological state of a person.
