Finnish police found an anchor mark near the EstLink 2 cable

Finnish police found an anchor mark on the bottom of the Gulf of Finland after the EstLink 2 electric cable was damaged. This is reported in a release published on December 29 on the website of the agency.
With the help of underwater works it was found out that the length of the trace is several dozens of kilometers, said the head of the investigation Sami Paila.
The place of anchor detachment has not yet been found, specified "Gazeta.Ru".
Investigative actions are also being conducted on the ship itself. As part of them, the crew is being questioned.
Earlier, on December 25, the Estonian operator of electricity and gas supply networks Elering reported that there was an emergency shutdown of the submarine DC cable EstLink 2 between Estonia and Finland for an unknown reason. The next day it became known that the outage affected three more cables between the two countries in the Gulf of Finland.
Then the Finnish border service and police stopped the tanker Eagle S under the flag of the Cook Islands, which is believed to be involved in the incident. It was noted that the vessel did not have anchors secured and one of them was missing. After the incident, NATO plans to increase its military presence in the Baltic Sea.
