Estonian Interior Ministry sees no need to close borders with Russia

There is no need to close the borders with Russia, as it will not solve the security problem. This opinion was expressed by the head of the Estonian Interior Ministry Lauri Läänemets in an interview with the Estonian TV and radio company ERR on December 29.
"The government knows when and under what conditions borders should be closed. We are ready to do so if it is necessary. However, such a measure has not been necessary from a security point of view at the moment," Läänemets said.
According to him, the decision to quickly close the borders in Narva and southern Estonia should not be rushed, as it could have an impact on local residents.
Details of the circumstances under which Estonia may close the border with Russia, the material does not provide.
Earlier, on December 26, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal announced the intention to attract NATO maritime forces to protect critical infrastructure in the Baltic Sea. In his opinion, in this matter should have been more active.
Before that, on Dec. 25, Finland, Latvia and Estonia said they were unable to confront Russia without U.S. involvement. At that time, Michal said that NATO needs to strengthen its defense capabilities.
The West regularly stirs up hysteria among the citizens of its countries, warning of an allegedly imminent war with Russia. At the same time, Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that nothing of the sort is in the country's plans.
