The head of the opinion department of German newspaper Welt, Eva Marie Kogel, has decided to quit after the publication released an interview with American billionaire Ilon Musk.

"I have always enjoyed heading the opinion department at Welt and Welt am Sonntag. Today an article by Ilon Musk appeared in Welt am Sonntag. Yesterday I tendered my resignation after the piece went to print," she wrote on social network X (formerly Twitter).

In the article, which was published on the publication's website, Musk criticized the economic and cultural policies of the Federal Republic of Germany and reiterated his support for the Alternative for Germany party. The entrepreneur called the AdG "the last spark of hope" for the country and urged Germans to vote for it.

As specified by the magazine Focus, next to Musk's article in the printed newspaper was placed the text of the head of the group Welt Jan Philipp Burgard, who expressed the opinion that the billionaire correctly assessed the "diagnosis" of Germany, but the "treatment" by the election of the AdG is wrong.

It is noted that the publication of Musk's opinion caused sharp disagreement in the Welt editorial board.

Earlier, on December 20, Musk wrote in X that only the AdG party can save Germany. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz disagreed with his position and said that freedom of speech in Germany does not mean that the opinions of multi-billionaires are correct. In addition, Musk called on Scholz to resign after the terrorist attack in Magdeburg, calling the chancellor an incompetent fool.
