Syrian Foreign Minister Assad Hassan al-Shibani called on Iran to respect the will of the Syrian people and the country's sovereignty. He wrote on December 25 on social network X (formerly Twitter).

"Iran must respect the will of the Syrian people and the country's sovereignty and security. We warn Tehran not to spread chaos in Syria," the Syrian foreign minister said.

According to al-Shibani, Syria calls on Iran to bear the consequences of its recent remarks.

Earlier, on December 13, Stanislav Tarasov, an expert on the problems of the Middle East and the Caucasus, told Izvestia that Israel would like to repeat the Syrian scenario in Iran. The expert noted that the situation in Syria has negatively affected Iran's political influence in the region, which Netanyahu is trying to use. Thus, explained the interlocutor of the publication, Israel would like to achieve a change of power in Iran.

Before that, on December 8, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, after negotiations with the opposition, left the post of head of state and left the country, instructing to carry out the transfer of power peacefully.

On the same day, the national coalition of revolutionary and opposition forces in Syria said it was working on the formation of a transitional authority. In turn, Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali said that most of the ministers of the Syrian government remain in Damascus, and he himself is ready to cooperate with any elected leadership.

The situation in Syria has escalated as a result of a major attack by armed formations in Aleppo and Idlib, which began on November 28 and led to the Syrian army's retaliatory actions against the militants.
