The issue of supplying Ukraine with military aid, including Taurus cruise missiles, is very disappointing. Russian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechayev told Izvestia on December 24.

"This is, of course, very disappointing. <...> What is even more depressing is, of course, the supply of lethal weapons, because when tanks with German black crosses drive in the Kursk region, you probably realize that this evokes quite specific historical parallels," he said.

According to Nechayev, this is quite sensitive for the Russian people. He also urged to remain optimistic.

In addition, the ambassador emphasized that after the Ukrainian conflict, relations between Germany and Russia will be restored, but "on a different basis, taking into account the historical experience."

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on December 16 that Germany would not help the Kiev authorities to the detriment of its own security, in particular, by transferring Taurus missiles and sending its military to Ukraine.

At the same time, Scholz expressed support for Kiev during his visit to Ukraine on December 2. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the statements of support for Kiev an example of the destructive line of European leaders. On the same day, the chancellor announced the allocation of €650 million worth of arms to Ukraine.

Afterwards, on December 4, on his return to Berlin, Scholz said that Germany would not authorize Ukraine to launch strikes with long-range weapons deep into Russian territory, nor would it supply Taurus cruise missiles.

The special operation to defend Donbass, which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region.
