Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova on 21 December reacted to the personnel reshuffle in Ukraine's diplomatic corps announced by the country's president Volodymyr Zelenskyy (whose term of office expired on 20 May) by quoting Russian writer Ivan Krylov.

The day before, on December 20, Zelensky published a video message in his Telegram channel, in which he announced the approval of more than 30 decisions on reshuffles in the diplomatic corps. The Ukrainian leader decided to appoint the country's former ambassador to Germany, Andriy Melnyk, who currently holds the post of ambassador to Brazil, as Ukraine's representative to the UN. Melnyk during the diplomatic service in Berlin was remembered for scandalous statements.

"And you, friends, no matter how you sit down; You are not fit to be musicians," Zakharova said in a message in her Telegram channel.

In addition, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman recalled that Melnyk was expelled from Germany for calling names. In particular, he insulted German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, calling him an "offended liverwurst sausage."

Earlier, on December 20, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that Zelensky would not be able to retain the presidency because his country does not need him. According to him, the Ukrainian leader's fundamentally wrong rhetoric jeopardizes the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. He added that negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin were possible only after Zelensky's legal return to the post of the head of state. Earlier, on December 4, Medvedev predicted the Ukrainian politician's disgraceful emigration.

On 26 November, Verkhovna Rada MP Maryana Bezuglaya said that Ukraine's statehood is threatened with collapse due to the numerous problems of the Ukrainian army. He linked such a forecast to the facts of corruption at all levels.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by the Russian President on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
