Russia is the only country in the world where New Year's Eve is celebrated nine hours earlier than in the capital of the country, and ends an hour after the chimes in Moscow. Residents of Kamchatka and Chukotka will be the first to celebrate the holiday. When it will be three o'clock in Moscow, in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky it will be midnight. Also at this time the New Year will be celebrated on Ratmanov Island, or Bolshoi Diomid, in the Bering Strait. This is the easternmost point of Russia, located midway between Chukotka and Alaska.
