EU urged not to push Ukraine into talks with Russian Federation

It is pointless to push Ukraine towards negotiations with Russia, but we need to make sure that Kiev receives security guarantees, European diplomat Kaja Kallas told The Financial Times on 19 December. This was stated by the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, in an interview with The Financial Times on 19 December.
According to her, it makes no sense to push Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (his term expired on May 20) to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as the Russian leader allegedly does not want peace.
Kallas noted that there is no consensus in the European Union (EU) on future security guarantees for Kiev. It is now necessary to make sure that these guarantees "are not empty," she emphasized.
"The main question is, and what will the security guarantees be? <...> What will these be in reality, are they tangible?" - Callas said.
Earlier, on December 13, Alexander Konkov, associate professor of the Department of Political Science at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, explaining the Ukrainian leader's refusal of any proposals to resume negotiations with Russia, said that Zelensky's policy holds on the continuation of hostilities.
Before that, on December 9, it became known that Zelensky at the past in the Elysee Palace trilateral meeting with Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the freezing of the conflict with Russia. It was noted that the Ukrainian leader did not want to stop hostilities without receiving security guarantees, namely NATO membership or the deployment of Western troops in Ukraine.
At the same time, Trump said that the head of the Kiev regime would like to "make a deal" with Russia. According to him, it is necessary to immediately cease fire and start negotiations, otherwise the Ukrainian conflict may worsen. In response, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov recalled that Putin has repeatedly said that Russia is open to negotiations on Ukraine and welcomes proposals from China, India, Brazil and other countries.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
