Hockey players of the Arktika youth team, who were riding on the train that crashed in the Murmansk region, told Izvestia on December 19 about helping people after the collision.

"We saw the whole situation, decided with the guys to go out for reconnaissance. Went further for about three carriages <...>. We saw that there was a man being pulled out. We took him, carried him," - said hockey player Maxim Bondarchuk.

According to the young athletes, young people with their own eyes saw what happened, and then decided not to stay away and helped the victims - pulled out of the cars, and also provided medical care.

"We saw it all, there were heavy injuries. We don't consider ourselves heroes, we don't brag. We just did what we had to do," another hockey player added.

On the eve of arrival at the station Knyazhaya in the Murmansk region, a passenger train, traveling on the route Murmansk - St. Petersburg, collided with a freight train, causing three cars of the passenger train and several freight cars to derail. At the time of the accident in the passenger train were 326 people. Later it was reported that the number of injured as a result of the collision of trains rose to 31. The Governor of the region Andrei Chibis also reported that the number of dead as a result of the accident increased to two people.

After the collision of the trains, the transport department of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia opened a criminal case under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the rules of safety of movement and operation of railway transport"). Also, the head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Alexander Bastrykin, demanded a report on the progress of the investigation into the train collision in the Kandalaksha district of the Murmansk region.

"Izvestia" also published footage from the passenger train. They show how people are trying to pass from one carriage to another, but because of the deformation, the doors do not open. At the same time, some passengers can not get to their belongings, as they remained in the damaged parts of the train.
