Train collision in the Murmansk region - what happened

The incident occurred in the Murmansk region at the railway station Knyazhaya. According to the press service of Russian Railways, a passenger train traveling on the route Murmansk - St. Petersburg, collided with a freight train. As a result of the collision, three cars of the passenger train and several freight cars derailed.

At the time of the accident in the passenger train were 326 people, including pupils of children's sports school boxing from Severomorsk. It was noted that the children and the coach were not injured. The source of "Izvestia" specified that a total of 161 passengers, including 32 children, were in the damaged cars.

To eliminate the consequences of the derailment to Knyazhaya were sent recovery trains from Kandalaksha and Kem stations. Traffic on this section of the tracks has been suspended.

As the Governor of the Murmansk region Andrei Chibis reported in his Telegram-channel, rescuers and medics went to the accident site, a helicopter of the Territorial Center for Disaster Medicine was sent to the departure. Video from the street shows that both trains have sustained serious damage. At least one freight car has been overturned, and the passenger car has a badly dented wall.

Yulia, a passenger of the train that collided with the freight train, told Izvestia that she was in the dining car at the time of the accident.

"We had a sudden fall of all the glasses, broken dishes in the restaurant car. We thought something had happened in the other rail cars. We were told that someone pressed the stopcock," the interlocutor shared.

Yulia added that the carriage in which she was traveling was "all skewed", making it impossible to take things and documents. In the neighboring carriage, the doors and ceiling collapsed. The girl noted that the emergency services are actively working at the scene of the accident, the situation remains calm.

The mother of the girl who was injured in the collision of trains, told "Izvestia" that her daughter is transported to the regional hospital, she is still under examination. According to the woman, she was in the carriage that derailed, and was traveling with her daughter, her husband, her sister and her family. The victim's mother also indicated that her sister was diagnosed with a broken leg.
