A children's boxing team was traveling on the train that was involved in an accident near Murmansk

The passenger train, which collided with a freight train in Murmansk region, was carrying pupils of a children's sports school for boxing from Severomorsk. This was reported by the head of Severomorsk Vladimir Evmenkov on December 18.

"Among the passengers of the train №11 Murmansk - St. Petersburg - pupils of our children's sports school №1, who were going to the boxing competition in Boksitogorsk," he wrote in Telegram-channel.

He noted that the children and the coach were not hurt.

Evmenkov added that, following a decision by Murmansk Region Governor Andrei Chibis, an operational headquarters had begun work on the accident.

The press service of Russian Railways reported that the passenger train, traveling on the route Murmansk - St. Petersburg, collided with a freight train. As a result of the accident, three cars of the passenger train and several freight cars derailed. At the time of the collision there were 326 people in the passenger train.

After the collision of the trains, the transport department of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia opened a criminal case under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the rules of safety of movement and operation of railway transport").

"Izvestia" also published footage from the passenger train. They show people trying to pass from one carriage to another, but because of the deformation, the doors do not open. Some passengers can not get to their belongings, as they remained in the damaged parts of the train.

Assistant Health Minister Alexei Kuznetsov specified that the condition of two of the 11 victims is assessed as serious. Later, the press service of Russian Railways said that one of the victims died in an ambulance.
